Welcome

Mrs. Johnson
I have been teaching since 1989.  I have taught in New Hampshire, Georgia, and Massachusetts. I came to Shaker Lane in 1999.  I have three children, ages 21, 19, and 17.  I have been married for 24 years. I love animals and have had many different kinds of pets.  I have raised sheep, angora bunnies, albino frogs, hamsters, snakes; I currently have 5 cats, and two dogs (pugs).  Ella is a black pug and she is 1 1/2 years old.  Thor is a fawn pug, and he is 5 months old. My family loves to camp, hike, kayak, and read.  My alone hobby is knitting.  My favorite color is orange, and my favorite food is Chinese food (especially egg rolls). I love teaching preschool because I learn from my students every day.  They remind me how special life is during these early years.

Hi everyone! Sharing is one of the things we learn to do in preschool, so let me share a little something about me... as a child I loved the outdoors, exploring nature, camping trips, fishing, backyard volleyball, neighborhood street hockey, and spending time on my grandparents' farm. Yes, I love animals and have had many over the years: cats, dogs, lizards, birds, sheep and even a pig named Sugar (with many more in between)! Cows happen to be my favorite, and that is the one pet I never had but always wanted. I tried convincing my parents that it would be a good investment, FREE MILK, save on the lawn mowing, and great fertilizer for the garden... I lost the battle. I was the neighborhood babysitter, until I found my first job as a CNA at Rivercrest Nursing Home. During my high school years, I earned my community service by volunteering at the Ripley School in Concord  in a 1st grade hearing impaired classroom - an AMAZING experience!!! It was then that I realized I wanted to work with young children.  I've been married for 29 years and have 3 sons, ages 27, 24, and 21.  I have a dog, cat, fish and a few stink bugs (not by choice). Oh, did I mention I'm a grandmother too?! Family time is precious, as well as my alone time to enjoy my hobbies like painting, crafts, and gardening... just to name a few. I love to mow the lawn; it's fun and relaxing and no one bothers you, mainly because they are afraid I might ask them to do something. Some of my favorite things are country music, Chinese food, Kimball's ice cream, and the Boston Bruins. My favorite movie is "On Golden Pond." My favorite color is a hard one for me, being a painter, but if I had to pick one it would be... NO, sorry... just can't do it! I don't like eggs, or the temperature above 68 degrees, and I'm afraid of heights, so becoming a roofer or a flying trapeze act in the circus was totally out of the question. I started my career at Shaker Lane School in 1999 as a Special Education Assistant. Playing, learning, and exploring through the eye's of a young child is such a rewarding experience: starting from the first day of school, helping your little one transition from home to making new friends and being part of a classroom, loving and guiding them to independence and confidence, to be the little stars they are, to assist them in reaching and growing towards new goals everyday.  To me, this is not a job, this is what I love to do!

I am an ASD Specialist/Special Education assistant in the classroom. This is my 4th year in Preschool at Shaker Lane, and I love what I do. I have been married for 18 years and have 3 beautiful children:1 girl & 2 boys, ages 15, 13, and 8. I love spending time with my family; it is my favorite thing to do. We like to vacation by going camping, hiking, and boating (someday I hope to get a REAL vacation). Right now we only have 1 have dog named Dempsey. We have had 2 cats and hopefully in the near future we will add 2 kittens. When I was younger I used to raise rabbits. They are my favorite animal. My favorite rabbit was Penelope. She was a huge, white rabbit with straight ears. My favorite sport to play is volleyball. I played in high school and college. I even coached at the college level for a few years before starting a family! I love my Irish heritage and can just about name any song and who it is sung by. However, I cannot do that when listening to regular radio stations, it is a big joke in my house. I have been Irish step dancing for the majority of my life, and I did a lot of traveling here in the US and abroad for national competitions. I love getting the opportunity to teach kids a little dance every year around St. Patrick's Day. My favorite movie of all time is The Princess Bride, and I use quotes from the movie on a daily basis (just ask my family). My favorite color is GREEN and favorite number is 24. My favorite Boston sports team to watch is the New England Revolution (professional soccer). I love what I do so much that next month I will be returning to graduate school to finish my Masters degree in Early Childhood and finally get my teaching license! I am so lucky to have the opportunity to work with children every day and could not imagine doing anything else. :)
